As is standard practice in many states, physicians and nurse practitioners in North Carolina work together as part of a physician-led team. For decades, this team-based approach has delivered high-quality and safe patient care to North Carolinians.
Although there is an effort to eliminate physician involvement, most members of the patient care team prefer the current model. According to a national survey of more than 500 nurse practitioners (NPs), 88% of nurse practitioners are satisfied with physician-led care models.
Out of those surveyed, 98% of NPs said that collaborating and discussing complex patient cases with physicians is a benefit, and 89% of NPs cited patient safety as a key benefit to physician involvement.

The survey affirms the critical role that physicians play on patient care teams.
Health care teams with physician involvement lead to the best and safest outcomes for patients.
Keep physicians involved in North Carolina’s health care.
