Patients Expect Physician Involvement In Patient Care

When it comes to receiving high-quality health care, patients want and assume physicians will be involved in medical diagnoses and treatment.

Health care is about fixing a problem.  Patients expect the most qualified person – physician experts with the training and education – to handle any unexpected situation.

Data shows that patients both want and expect a physician involved in their care.

  • A national survey revealed 95 percent of U.S. voters believe it is important for physicians to be involved in diagnoses and treatment decisions.
  • In focus groups, education, training, and experience were cited as vital for optimal care.

Patients pay high insurance premiums and co-pays to “go to the doctor.”  They expect a physician will be involved in their medical diagnosis and treatment.
